Situated between Nicaragua (in the North) and Panamá (in the South) it has just a small surface which means that travel distances are short. Some political highlights

Costa Rica is a peaceful country that had its last civil war in 1948. A year later the army was abolished. In 1986 president Oscar Arias was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in the termination of the civil wars in Central America. Another interesting fact is that Costa Rica played a vital part in the realization of the Paris Accords on Climate Change (2016). Cristina Figueres brokered the agreement between the countries of the world.

Protection of nature

Costa Rica has an extended system of nature protection which range from National Parks, to Wildlife Refuges and Biological Corridors. About 40 % of the surface of the country receives protection. Most renown are the National Parks which are open for ecotourism. The most visited places are: Tortuguero, Arenal and Manuel Antonio.

Health system

Costa Rica counts with a first class private health system. Visitors who are unfortunate to need medical assistance during their vacation hail the quality of medical care in the country.

Infrastructure

New roads and improvements of old ones in the last years have made the life of the visitor who rents a car in Costa Rica much more easy!
