San Gerardo de Dota is a beautiful cloud forest on the Pacific slopes close to the Quetzal national park. This is a paradise for
travelers looking for untouched nature, walking and birding. San Gerardo de Dota is a good base to explore the Paramo forest and
the best place in Costa Rica to observe the beautiful Resplendent Quetzal; the sacred bird. A place not yet found by the big crowds
and not to miss in your Costa Rica travels.
Day 1. Getting to San Gerardo de Dota.
San Gerardo is easy to reach by rental car (contact Ecole Travel for information about rental cars) or by transfer. Choose your way to get to this untouched cloud forest. Upon arrival at the Savegre Lodge you can get comfortable in your room and start to explore some of the many trails in the private nature reserve. Choose your level of difficulty, get the map at the resepcion and put on your hiking shoes. Upon your return at the lodge you can relax, watch the hummingbirds fly by and get ready for a delicious dinner.
Day 2. Waterfall hike or bird watching tour.
Today after breakfast you can choose for a hiking tour to nearby waterfalls or a bird watching tour. Both tours will be guided and will show you all facets of the cloud forest and its inhabitants. Your guide will explain about the interesting bio diversity and will show you many colorful birds and other animals you might encounter. Upon return at the lodge you will have time to enjoy the spa and get ready for dinner.
Day 3. Onward travels.
Today you will make your check out after breakfast and by your method of transport you can continue your travels.
