Costa Rica is a peaceful country that had its last civil war in 1948. A year later the army was abolished. In 1986 president Oscar Arias was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in the termination of the civil wars in Central America. Another interesting fact is that Costa Rica played a vital part in the realization of the Paris Accords on Climate Change (2016).
